A fire first reported as 50 acres in northern Washoe County has been contained at a much smaller size, .15 acres, according to the Gerlach Volunteer Fire Department.
The fire burning in the area of the Soldier Meadows Ranch and Lodge was reported just after 8:30 p.m. June 14, 2018. It burned one abandoned ranch building, but no injuries were reported and no cause has been determined.
The ranch is about a 4-hour drive from Reno and about 2.5 hours north of Gerlach.
Another fire in the Nixon area Friday morning burned about half an acre before being contained, according to Don Pelt with the Pyramid Paiute Tribe. He says it was human-caused, but nothing further has been determined. No injuries were reported.
