ST. PETERSBURGH, Fla. - Reed high school graduate Jake McGee was sent down to Triple-A by the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend.

McGee was demoted to make room on the 40-man roster for Alex Cobb, who was needed to make a spot start for Tampa Bay on Sunday.

McGee made the opening day roster out of Spring Training this season. He had struggled a bit, compiling a 5.14 ERA in 11 appearances. He gave up 11 hits and four earned runs in seven innings this season.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said he wanted to give McGee some more innings of work, which would only be possible at the Triple-A level.
