RENO, NV - The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has released new information about a shooting in Reno over the weekend that led to a suspect being shot to death.
Sheriff's detectives say the incident began about 3PM Sunday, November 22, 2015. Police responded to a call from a gunshot victim at a 7-11 on Grove Street, and when they got there and found the victim, the investigation led to another man who had been shot.
The investigation indicates both victims, who are still being treated for their wounds in a hospital, live close to the suspect and the three had been arguing. When police tracked the suspect, he was pointing a gun at at least one person. When they yelled at him to put the gun down, he didn't do so, and they shot him. He was pronounced dead in a hospital.
The suspect is identified as 45-year-old Mathew Grows, who had a criminal record for charges that didn't keep him from legally owning a gun.
During the shooting investigation, fire broke out at a multi-unit residential building across the street from the 7-11. The suspect and both victims lived in that building and the fire started in Grows' garage.
Detectives say they believe the shooting and fire are related, though the cause of the fire has not been determined.
The Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting because Reno officers were involved. The involved officers have been placed on routine administrative leave per Reno Police Department policy.
