RENO - The United Soccer League (USL) has awarded Reno an expansion franchise for 2017. An official announcement will be made next Wednesday by the league.

The USL is a minor league affiliated with Major League Soccer (MLS), similar to Triple-A in baseball.

The franchise will be owned by Herb Simon, the co-owner of the Reno Aces and the Indiana Pacers. The team will play their home games at Aces Ballpark.

There are 30 games in a USL season, including 15 home games. Those will be scheduled around the Reno Aces, usually when they are out of town on a road trip.

There are currently 24 franchises in the United Soccer League. The league could expand to 30 by the 2017 season.
