GOLCONDA, NV – The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the man killed in an officer-involved shooting. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a Winnemucca police officer was helping members of the Nevada Department of Public Safety with a traffic stop on Interstate 80 at mile marker 222 the afternoon of October 23, 2013.

Detectives say shortly after making contact with the driver of the vehicle, the vehicle was driven away, the driver refusing the officer's demands to stop. He then headed west on I-80 back toward Winnemucca. A vehicle pursuit ensued, including deputies with Humboldt and Lander counties, until the driver exited the Interstate in Golconda. The driver then left the car and immediately began firing a weapon in the direction of the responding officers and deputies, according to detectives.

At least three law enforcement personnel returned fire. 46-year-old John Robert Dellafiora of New York state was struck and killed. No one else was hurt.

Detectives from the Regional Officer-Involved Shooting Team in Reno were requested to assist in the investigation by the sheriff of Humboldt County. That investigation is ongoing and results will be forwarded to the Humboldt County District Attorney's Office.
