Mason fire in Washoe Valley being mopped up

WASHOE VALLEY, Nev (KOLO) - A brush fire that sparked in northeast Washoe Valley Sunday night is now in mop-up.

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to reports of a fire east of Little Washoe Lake just before 9:00 PM June 26, 2016.

Washoe County Sheriff's Office helicopter RAVEN assisted with the initial attack dousing the flames with four water drops.

The cause is still under investigation, but witnesses report target shooting in the area earlier in the day.

The burn area was restricted to nine acres.

Crews officially began mop up operations around 9:30.

Command has been turned over to crews from the Bureau of Land Management..
