RENO, NV - The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says a 33-year-old phlebotomist has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting a patient at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

Bryan Sandiego Samson of Sparks was sentenced October 8, 2015 in Washoe District Court to a term of life in prison. Samson had pleaded guilty to one count of Sexual Assault.

The case against Samson began August 20, 2014 when detectives with the Reno Police Department responded to Saint Mary’s Hospital on a report of a sexual assault.

Police determined that a 19-year-old woman being treated for seizures had been sexually assaulted by an employee of the hospital. The woman was recovering in a hospital bed when Samson sexually assaulted her.

When interviewed, she was able to tell police that due to her seizure she was fully aware of her surroundings and the assault, but unable to speak or move and resist. Samson was employed as a phlebotomist at the time and assaulted the victim after preforming a blood draw on her. He was subsequently arrested and charged with sexual assault.

Samson will not be eligible for parole until he has served a minimum of 10 years in prison.
