SPARKS, Nev.--A man is in custody and has been charged with animal cruelty after he was found with more than 70 animals inside his home Wednesday.
Around 10 in the morning, neighbors reported to police they smelled that something had died in the area. Police responded and discovered 20 rabbits dead inside this house. That was just the start of it.
There were also more than 60 live animals inside the house and that number continues to grow. Police are calling this an extreme case of animal hoarding.
Neighbors say they knew the man inside the home had a lot of animals, but they had no clue as to what extent.
At last count 45 rabbits, 8 cats, and 6 dogs have been taken to the animal shelter but officials on scene are still trying to collect more animals.
They will all be seen by a veterinarian and treated, so eventually they can be adopted into a clean and safe home.
Police say 63-year-old Ronnie Bandoni is responsible for the animals. He faces four charges of animal cruelty and is currently held on $40,000 bail.
