RENO, NV - 24-year-old Jason Brown was booked into Washoe County Jail, facing charges of willful malicious torturing and killing of animals. Washoe County Undersheriff Tim Kuzanek says the investigation is still in the early stages. He says after rumors of the incident began popping up on social media, the Sheriff's Office felt it was important to let the public know that Brown is in custody.

Initially Reno Police were called to the Super 8 hotel on South Virginia Street. An employee called 9-1-1 after discovering the bloody scene in Brown's room. Details of how the five dogs were killed are not being released. Because of the nature of the crime RPD handed the investigation over to Washoe County Regional Animal Services and the Sheriff's Office.

Brown's car was tracked down Wednesday afternoon. He was easily taken into custody. Right now, no one else is suspected in the crime.

Criminologists say torturing animals can be a predictor of violent behavior towards humans, as in the cases of Jeffery Dahmer and the "Boston Strangler" Albert Desalvo. Although, according to Kuzanek investigators say Brown had not been on their radar until now. In addition to the mutilated animals, police also found drugs and paraphernalia in Brown's room. Kuzanek is not saying what kind of drugs, only that they are undergoing testing.
