Elko Police Arrest Shooting Suspect After Standoff

ELKO, NV -- Elko Police Captain Will Lehmann confirms officers took a shooting suspect into custody Saturday evening.

Officers hunted for the suspect, Martin Carillo, all Saturday and finally found him in a home on the same road where the initial incident happened.

The shooting happened around 5am in a home on Bullion Road in Elko. The victim, a man named Chauna Kota, was shot in the leg and flown to a hospital in Salt Lake City where he is expected to recover.

Capt. Lehmann says investigators initially thought Carillo was in a home near Idaho Street. Because of that, the nearby National Basque Festival parade was postponed for more than an hour.

Investigators finally found him in a mobile home on Bullion Road. A SWAT team, Elko Fire Department personnel, and hostage negotiators joined police at the scene. They made a "dynamic entry," according to Capt. Lehmann, and arrested Carillo.
