RENO, Nev. (AP) - The storm that socked the Sierra Monday is moving across Nevada, dumping more than a foot of snow in northern Elko County, downing trees and power lines and temporarily closing a stretch of Interstate 80.

Up to 4 additional inches of snow was expected in the valleys around Elko by Tuesday evening and up to 8 inches in the mountains.

The National Weather Service reported 22 inches of snow early Tuesday at Wildhorse Reservoir north of Elko, 18 inches at Tuscarora, 17 inches at Jarbidge and 12 inches at Austin.

The town of Carlin west of Elko was without power for several hours after trees fell on power lines in winds gusting in excess of 50 mph. Several vehicles slid off I-80 at Emigrant Pass before westbound traffic was stopped shortly after midnight.
