Deerfield Lodge Fire Causes $2.5 Million In Damage

South Lake Tahoe, CA - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department has confirmed a fire has caused severe damage at the Deerfield Lodge at Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe.

Lt. Brian Williams with SLTPD tells KOLO 8 News Now that the fire, which started about 11:45 pm on Wednesday, severely burned 6 units and damaged 5 vehicles on the property.

Williams added that two people were injured when they jumped from a second story balcony trying to escape the fire and were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital.

The Arson Task Force is headed to the scene as part of the investigation.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Department Public Information Officer Sallie Ross-Filgo confirmed that 35 people have been displaced and were taken to the Lakeside Inn at Stateline.

10 engines, 5 ambulances, 1 truck and an air unit were on scene.

The fire was put out at 2:35 am Thursday and caused $2.5 million in damage.

The cause is under investigation
