RENO, NV - Saturday night, more than two dozen of the area's top chefs will work together to create an unforgettable meal for more than 550 people at the Atlantis Resort Casino.
"I think this is the event to attend here in Reno," Atlantis Chef de Cuisine Clayton Slieff said. "It's a great location and you have the opportunity to eat food from all the top chefs in the area in one night. It's going to be fantastic."
Proceeds from the "Big Chefs, Big Gala" event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada.
"This really helps to support our mission of providing caring adult mentors to any youth in our community who wants or needs one," Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada CEO Liza Maupin said. "The response has already been overwhelming."
The program helps more than 800 children a year. Still, there's a need for mentors.
"We're really only limited by the number of adults that volunteer," Maupin said. "Right now we have more than a hundred youth on our waiting list. All it takes to be a big brother or big sister is an hour of your time each week. If you can find that hour, you can make a huge impact on the life of a child."
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a program Colin Smith of Roundabout Catering has supported for years.
"It's just a fantastic program," Smith said. "And this event is a chance for all these chefs to cook and hang out and talk food. We see each other in the paper, hear about new recipes but we don't ever get a chance to really cook together so we're all looking forward to it."
Nicholle Alumbaugh of Homage Bakery will be working on some of the menu's sweet aspects on Saturday. She says the community has shown great support over the last two and a half years.
"We're still a little new to the community and any time we get a chance to participate in a community event like this it's amazing," Alumbaugh said. "It's great to be on board with a lot of chefs I've worked with in the past and come together to support a great cause."
Tickets will be available until noon on Saturday. You can get them online at www.BBBSNN.org
