Governor Will Be At Sheep Dip Only In Spirit

RENO, NV - Governor Jim Gibbons will not appear on stage during this year's Sheep Dip show, which for the past 45 years has poked fun at those who were in the news headlines of the previous year.

Gibbons' spokesman, Dan Burns, said the governor has nothing against the show, but he did not want to be involved in a planned skit involving a video presentation that involved Michael Jackson music. Burns said the skit "was in poor taste."

"We asked them change it up but we never heard back," Burns said.

The show's producer, Kathy Breen, said this would be first time in the show's history that a sitting governor did not kick off the Truckee Meadows tradition either in person or by a video presentation.

Breen added that after some email exchanges about possibly re-writing the skit, the show decided to take another direction to open the show.

"It's going to be a fun surprise," Breen said.

The show runs Friday and Saturday night at The Nugget. Most of the show's proceeds go to local charities.
