H&R Block Employee Arrested for Alleged Fraud

An H&R Block employee was recently arrested for fraud when two H&R Block customers found out that their ’08 taxes had been filed and their refunds issued on a prepaid debit card, all without their knowledge.

Investigators identified employee Valerie Guerrero as a suspect. She worked as a tax preparer for branches in Truckee, CA and Reno, NV (W. 4th St). Investigators learned that Guerrero was using the prepaid debit cards to make purchases in Sparks.

Guerrero was arrested by Sparks police and booked for several felonies that include burglary, fraudulent use of a credit card, possessing a credit card without the owners consent and receiving property as a result of unlawfully using a credit card.

Clients who have used H&R Block in Truckee or Reno in the prior year can contact the local IRS office to ask if they have been victim to similar fraud.
