Donations to Wolf Pack shooting facility could be returned

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The decision by the University of Nevada Athletic Department to eliminate the Wolf Pack's successful Rifle Team has raised questions about the funds raised to build a proposed shooting facility.

According to University sources, only $110,002 had been raised for the proposed rifle facility. The Nevada Department of Wildlife had committed to providing a $5 million five-year grant, and Rifle Coach Fred Harvey said there were verbal commitments for another $10 million in donations once the University broke ground on the facility.

Funds raised by the Rifle Team over the years had all gone toward annual operating expenses, and were not being saved for the facility project.

The University says the donors who gave to the project will all be contacted by the University Foundation to determine if they want their donations returned or used by the University in another way.
