RENO, NV – Nevada women’s basketball head coach Amanda Levens has announced the signing of USC transfer Marguerite Effa to a scholarship agreement. Effa is a graduate transfer who is eligible immediately with one year of eligibility remaining.

“We are thrilled to add Mar to our program,” said Levens. “She is a talented post player who brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience to our team and will add size and a strong presence in the post. We are so excited to get Mar on campus and start working with her.”

Effa, a 6-3 post from Los Angeles, redshirted during the 2018-19 season at USC but previously played three years for the Trojans. In those three years, Effa played in 62 games, averaged over seven minutes a game and shot above 45 percent from the field. Her best season was her freshman year in 2015-16 where she averaged 2.4 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per game. Her career-high of nine points also came during her freshman season against Hope International.

In her high school career at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, Effa was a two-time selection as the Los Angeles City Section Player of the Year. She averaged 23.4 points and 12.2 rebounds during her four years at Fairfax. Effa also played club for the California Basketball Club.

She joins Nia Alexander, a transfer from the University of San Francisco, and three incoming freshmen as the new members of the Wolf Pack for the 2019-20 season.
