Reno, Nev. – The Nevada softball team moves to 13-9, 0-1 overall after falling to the Utah State Aggies in the first of a three game series. The two meet again tomorrow at Hixson with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
Freshman Kendall Fritz got the start and pitched four complete innings with five runs and four strikeouts. Senior Kali Sargent came in relief and pitched two innings without a run, she ended with five strikeouts.
Junior Kenzi Goins recorded her fifth home run of the season, a solo over the right field wall in the bottom of the second inning to tie it up 1-1. Utah State responded with two home runs of their own, a solo and then a three run homer to take the lead 5-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Ashley Salausa had her second multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 at the plate. The sophomore was responsible the RBI, in the bottom of the fifth, that got things rolling for the Pack. Dallas Millwood followed with a double to left center that traveled back to the warning track, scoring two to bring it within one, 5-4.
The Pack held off the Aggies for the duration of the game and had the tying run on first in the bottom of the seventh, thanks to Danielle Lew who reached first after a Utah State fielding error. The freshman was however, left stranded after a foul ball was caught and thrown to first fo a double play.
The game tomorrow is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. PT and will be live streamed via Mountain West Network.
