RENO, NV - Playing at the brand new Truckee Meadows Community College soccer field, Nevada (1-5) could not find the back of the net in a hard-fought 2-0 loss to Utah (4-3) on Friday evening. It was the first game all season that the Wolf Pack allowed more than one goal.
Nevada will be back in Mackay Stadium next Saturday, Sept. 21 when it hosts UC Davis to wrap up nonconference play. Tickets are available for purchase for that match here.
Utah got it going offensively right from the start, outshooting the Pack 19-8 and earning eight corner kicks while Nevada did not get one all night. Goalkeeper Kendal Stovall made six saves, increasing her total to 33 on the season.
Two freshmen led the Pack in shots, as Lizzy Hairston and Lesly Gonzales each fired two on the Utah defense. Both each registered a shot on goal, as did fellow freshmen Madison Taylor.
The Utes scored in the beginning and end of the match, as the game-winning goal came in the 12th minute as Holly Daugirda knocked the ball into the net thanks to a perfect cross by Hailey Stodden. The goal to ice the game came off a free kick by Jessica Hixon in the 88th minute.
Olivia Carter played a season-high 80 minutes in the match, while Hannah Souza, Kylie Minamishin, Sara Olanda, Hairston and Stovall each stayed on the pitch for the full 90.
