RENO, NV (KOLO) - Top seeds Reno, Galena and Spanish Springs all took care of business to open the 4A North baseball playoffs, with fourth seed Bishop Manogue falling at home to Damonte Ranch.
The number one seed Huskies had no issues with Douglas, dispatching the Tigers 11-1 in six innings. It was a similar story at Galena, where the number two Grizzlies 10-run ruled McQueen. 12-2. Third-seeded Spanish Springs got the day's only shutout, blanking Reed 6-0. Number five Damonte Ranch was the lone to team to pull of an upset, holding off the number four Miners 3-1 from Manogue.
On Wednesday, Reno will host Damonte Ranch as Galena welcomes Spanish Springs in the winner's bracket. Manogue will host Douglas as McQueen goes to Reed in the loser-out matchups. All four games start at 4 p.m.
Two of the eight Northern squads will advance to next weekend's state tournament in Las Vegas. Seeding will be determined at Saturday's regional championship game from Peccole Park.
