Reno, Galena advance as 4A North field is whittled down

RENO, NV (KOLO) - Top seeds Reno and Galena stayed unbeaten in the 4A North playoffs Wednedsay, setting up a showdown with a trip to state on the line Thursday.

For a second straight day, the Huskies had no issues with their opponent, beating Damonte Ranch 10-1 after an 11-1 win Tuesday over Douglas. At Galena, the Grizzlies scored early and overcame a furious Spanish Springs comeback, holding off the Cougars, 5-4.

Reno and Galena will meet Friday at 7 p.m. from Peccole Park in the winner's bracket final, winner clinching a trip to the state tournament.

Elsewhere, Manogue and McQueen stayed alive in loser-out play. The Miners ended Douglas' season in blowout fashion, 13-0. The Lancers were the only team to win on the road, sending Reed packing with a 5-2 win.

Tomorrow, Manogue will host McQueen while Spanish Springs welcomes Damonte Ranch in loser-out play. The winner's of those games will advance to face the loser of Reno-Galena on Friday.
