Reno 1868 player critical after Tahoe accident

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KOLO) - The San Jose Earthquakes soccer team says midfielder Matheus Silva is in critical but stable condition at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno after a water accident July 4, 2017.

The team released the following statement about the 20-year-old, who is on loan with the Earthquakes’ United Soccer League affiliate Reno 1868 FC:

"Matheus Silva had to be pulled out of the water while swimming in Lake Tahoe this morning. After receiving life-saving resuscitation measures at the scene, he was transferred to a nearby hospital in Lake Tahoe. He was then airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. He is currently in critical, but stable condition.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Matheus, his family and friends."
