MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. (KOLO)-- Jaeger Alan Bailey, an X Games competitor and professional snowboarder, died of suicide on Christmas Day, the Mono County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday.

Bailey, 26, lived in Mammoth Lakes and the Mammoth Lakes Police Department was called to his home at about 6 p.m. on Christmas Day, the sheriff’s office said. He was not responsive.

Snowboarder Magazine named him "Rookie of the Year" in 2013.

A memorial fund has already surpassed its $10,000 goal. Extra money will go to mental health research.

National Geographic published an article that said ski towns were seeing more suicides.

There are resources for people feeling suicidal. Or people can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255).
