RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Athletic genes run through the Ault family.
On Saturday night Nevada freshman Davis Ault captured a NCBA National Championship by defeating Cincinnati's Jacob Maslyk.
Ault beat Maslyk by split decision to capture the title in the 139 pound weight class.
"It was a tough one. He was in a lot better shape than I thought he was. My muscles are starting to catch up to me from the previous two nights of fighting but I pushed myself. I left it all out there and got the win. It's indescribable. I was fighting back tears. Just an amazing feeling. I've been working toward this since the very beginning and this is the end result you want. All my hard work finally paid off," Ault said after his fight.
Ault said he will take a few weeks off to recover before training for next season.
