Reno, Nev. – Junior Ryan Anderson picked up his fourth win of the season after tossing 6.2 innings with six strikeouts in Nevada’s (9-7, 2-2 MW) 5-3 win over New Mexico (10-6, 2-2 MW) on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Joshua Zamora and junior Jaylon McLaughlin tied for the team-high with three hits each in the win.
The Wolf Pack will be back for game two against the Lobos at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park tomorrow at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online or by calling (775) 348-PACK.
Including today’s victory, Nevada has now 10-3 in its last 13 regular-season games against the Lobos and has won five in a row.
Anderson (4-1) picked up his career-high fourth victory on Friday only allowing four hits and one earned run. Bradley Bonnenfant (3) recorded his third save of the season after pitching the ninth.
Weston Hatten recorded his team-high two RBI in the second inning to give Nevada the lead on an RBI-single with the bases loaded. The Pack would never surrender its lead the rest of the game, even when the Lobos plated a run of their own in the third to cut Nevada’s lead to 2-1.
An RBI-single by Zamora in the fourth and an RBI-double by McLaughlin in the fifth extended Nevada’s lead to 4-1. Both hits came with two outs, and McLaughlin has tallied three hits in three of his last five games.
Junior Marco Valenzuela batted in Nevada’s final run of the day on an RBI-single in the seventh, and while New Mexico scored a run in the eighth and ninth, they were unable to complete the comeback and the Pack secured the 5-3 victory.
Nevada will go for the series win tomorrow at 2 p.m. There will be no live stream, but Zack Bayrouty will be back on the radio call on 94.1 FM/1450 AM.
