SACRAMENTO, CA - After leading by two runs entering the eighth inning, Nevada (25-24) dropped its contest at Sacramento State (30-18) 4-3. The Hornets scored three runs in the eighth to steal the game from the Wolf Pack.
Bradley Bonnenfant (5-3) suffered the loss for Nevada, after Dalton Gomez started the game and went six innings while only allowing three hits with five strikeouts.
The Hornets broke the 0-0 tie in the third as an RBI-double gave them a 1-0 lead. All of Nevada’s runs came from the fourth frame, beginning with a two-RBI double by Kaleb Foster that gave the Pack the lead.
Foster was then brought home thanks to an RBI-single by Matt Clayton that was shot up the middle. The fifth frame was the only inning that Nevada scored in on the night.
Ben Purcell relieved Gomez in the seventh, and tossed a hitless inning to bring the Pack to the eighth with the lead. It was then that Sacramento State scored two runs with an RBI-single, and eventually took the lead 4-3 on a sacrifice fly.
Nevada went down in order in the ninth to end the contest. The Pack will be back in action on Friday for its final conference series of the season at San Jose State. The games will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network with John Ramey calling the action on 94.1 FM/1450 AM.
