Nevada golf releases schedule for 2019-2020 season
Nevada men’s golf coach Jacob Wilner has announced the Wolf Pack’s 2019-20 schedule, which includes 13 events and trips to seven states outside of Nevada.
“Our team will be gaining lots of frequent flyer miles next year as we are playing in seven different states outside of our own,” said Wilner. “Luckily there will be some familiar courses in the rotation and the ones we haven’t seen I feel really suite our style of play. After a summer of big events for the players individually, I know they will be in prime shape to compete for the Pack come early September.”
Nevada will kick off the 2019-20 season the same way it has for the past three years at the Badger Invite, hosted by Wisconsin. The tournament will take place Sept. 8-10 at the University Course in Madison, Wis. The Pack has had success at this event in the past few years, earning a runner up finish in 2016 and a tie for third last fall.
From Wisconsin the team will then travel to the state of Washington to compete in the Husky Invitational for the second straight season. The two-day event will begin Sept. 16 at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., the site of next year’s Mountain West Championship. Nevada has played well on this golf course, finishing third in the 2018 MW Championship and placing second in last season’s Husky Invitational.
Nevada returns home to Reno on Sept. 23 to host the Wolf Pack Shootout, a one-day event at Montreux Country Club. This will be the Pack’s first event hosted in Reno since the 2011 Wolf Pack Classic. As October gets underway the Wolf Pack will compete in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational Oct. 7-8 at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. The team last competed in this event in the fall of 2017 and tied for fifth place.
The Wolf Pack will be in title defense mode for its next event, the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational Oct. 21-23 at the Reserve at Spanos Park. Last fall Nevada used a program-record round of 262 (22-under) in the final round to win the event by 12 shots. The Pack will close out the fall season with a trip to Hawai’i to compete in the Hoakalei CC Invitational for the first time.
The spring season will get underway March 6-7 at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nev., an event hosted by South Dakota State. The Pack is no stranger to this tournament as it captured the team title in 2017 and placed third in 2018. After a couple of weeks off, Nevada will return to the course March 23-24 at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. The Wolf Pack competed in this event for the first time since 2015 last season and earned a top five finish, led by a fourth place showing by senior Sam Meek. The team will waste no time getting back into competition as it participates in Stanford’s event The Goodwin just two days after the conclusion of the Duck Invitational. It will mark Nevada’s fifth straight season competing in this event.
To kick off competition in April, the Pack will make one of its longest trips of the season to Lincoln, Neb. and Firethorn Golf Club for the Husker Invitational April 11-12. This will be Nevada’s inaugural trip to this event. On April 20 the Pack returns to a familiar event, the El Macero Classic in Davis, Calif., an event it won two years ago. Nevada will conclude its 12-event regular season April 25-26 at the BYU Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah. The Pack has not competed in this event since 2015.
Next season’s Mountain West Championship will be played May 1-3 at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. This golf course was also the site of the 2018 MW Championship, where the Pack placed third.
At the conclusion of these 13 events, the Wolf Pack will see if it can qualify for NCAA Regionals for the third straight season. NCAA Regionals will be held May 17-20.
