RENO, Nev. (KOLO) March Madness is underway and that means betting and brackets are in full swing, but here are some basics experts say people should know before they place their bets.
"A lot of the favorites do go the furthest in the tournament but nobody really knows; you have housewives and kids picking just as well as the wise guys who are doing this all year round," John Haines, director of the Peppermill Sports Book, says.
Haines says the NCAA Tournament is anyone's game so it's best to go with your gut when filling out brackets or placing bets.
With Nevada in the tournament, Haines expects larger crowds than usual.
"It definitely gets busier and we obviously get a lot more bets and the further Nevada goes the better for us obviously," he says.
It's not just locals rooting for the Pack. John Rabius flew in from New York to get in on the competition.
"Nevada all the way, I mean come on we're in Nevada you got to bet Nevada," Rabius says.
