RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Regulation was not enough to crown a 4A North champion Friday night.
Instead the Bishop Manogue Miners beat Damonte Ranch 49-48 in overtime.
On the first possession of overtime the Mustangs scored courtesy of a Derrick Knoblock rushing score.
Damonte then kicked the point after touchdown to take the 48-41 lead.
Bishop Manogue needed a touchdown on its overtime possession to keep the game alive. On the first play Peyton Dixon got to the edge and punched in a touchdown to make the score 48-47 Mustangs.
But Coach Howren didn't make seven 4A North Titles by playing for the tie.
Instead, the Miners coach rolled the dice and told his offense to go for two.
On the play, Andrew Scolari ran the play action fake to Dixon who was wide open for the 2-yard conversion.
Bishop Manogue walks off 49-48 to win its first ever 4A North crown.
