Gangi one of 30 finalists for Johnny Unitas Award

RENO, Nev. – After being named to the 2018 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list in August, Nevada senior quarterback Ty Gangi has made the cut down from 49 to 30 nominees.

The prestigious annual award is given based on player performance on-and off the field. The criteria to be included on the watch list consists of character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishment.

With 11 touchdown passes on the year, Gangi currently sits at 10th all-time in Nevada history. His career 5,379 passing yards rank 25th among active Division I athletes, with 1,332 of those coming this season in five games.

His last time out, Gangi had a career-day, tying his career-high with four touchdown passes at Air Force. He also threw for 259 yards with a 72.7 completion percentage.

Over the summer, Gangi was also named to preseason watch lists for the Maxwell Award, Manning Award, and the Wuerffel Trophy.
