After one round at the boys' 4A State Golf tournament, Galena freshman Orlando Coons is tied for the lead at one under par. The state champion team and individual will be decided Tuesday at Somersett Country Club.

Coons and Coronado's Michael Sarro were the only two to shoot under par Monday. The duo is looking down at a crowded leaderboard, which includes several Grizzlies. Two-time regional champion Ian Gilligan is just two shots back - one over after shooting 73. One stroke behind him is future Wolf Pack golfer Connor Motherway, who shook off a slow start to finish just two over par. Fellow Grizzly Sean Sear is just one back of Motherway at seven over.

As far as other local golfers, Chase Martin of Spanish Springs had the best round outside of a Galena player, tied for 19th after going six over. Reno's number one, Berkley Eaton, is just behind Martin at +7. Reed's number one, Chase Masterson, is in 45th (+15). Wooster's top player, Ben Zelisse, is tied for 49th after shooting +19.
