DAYTON, NV (KOLO) - Per Dayton Athletics Director David Palmer:

"I would liken to express to the Dayton Community that Dayton High School is deeply saddened by by a series of unfortunate events that have led to the dissolution of the Football program for the 2019 season. Due to a light turn out in participation the school has been monitoring the progress of the program since the beginning of the season in August. For a number of reasons including injuries the numbers of participants in the program decreased to a point where serious concerns for the safety of the remaining players where raised. In consultation between the Dayton High School Administration and the coaching staff a decision was reached that it was in the best interest of our students to pursue alternative options for the season.
At this point we have been working in cooperation with the NIAA and other local high schools to find opportunities for participation for our effected athletes. We are hopeful, that through continuing conversations with our area stakeholders we will be able to identify missed opportunities in the program and begin the rebuilding process for the 2020 season."
