RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – University of Nevada senior Caleb Martin has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week after helping the sixth ranked Wolf Pack post a perfect non-conference record of 13-0 as the Pack won 86-71 at Utah. It is Martin’s second MW weekly honor of the season and of his career.
Martin scored a career-high 33 points, 25 in the second half in the win over the Utes. With the Pack leading by just a single point, 38-37 at halftime he scored Nevada’s first nine points of the second half as they went on to win by double figures.
He scored 25 of the Pack’s 48 second half points. With twin brother Cody in foul trouble he moved to point guard and finished with a game and career high seven assists and did not commit a turnover. In addition he had four steals and two blocks playing 39 minutes.
Martin’s 23 attempted field goals and 16 attempted 3-pointer established new career marks. His 11 made field goals and six made 3-pointers tied career highs. From the field he was 11-of-23 (47.8%) which included 6-of-16 (37.5%) from behind the arc and 5-of-8 (62.5%) free throws. In the second half he made 9-of-14 shots, 4-of-7 three pointers and 3-of-6 free throws.
