Caleb Martin, Caroline added to watch lists

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – University of Nevada seniors Caleb Martin and Jordan Caroline have been named to the players to watch list for the 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy Men’s Player of the Year honor. Martin was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches preseason watch list for the 2019 NABC Division I Player of the Year Presented by ShotTracker.

Both were named to the 2018-19 Mountain West preseason team and were first team All-MW selections last year.

The Pack duo are two of 50 on the list for the 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy Men’s Player of the Year honor and the only two players from the Mountain West. Martin is the only MW player on the NABC preseason watch list that includes 30 players.

The 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy will be awarded at the Naismith Awards Brunch on April 7, 2019, during the Final Four in Minneapolis. The 2019 NABC Division I Player of the Year award will be announced on Sunday, April 7, at the NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show in Minneapolis, Minn. - site of the 2019 NCAA Final Four®.

Martin was named to 2018-19 preseason Associated Press and ESPN All-America teams last week. The reigning Mountain West Player of the Year and 2018-19 preseason MW Player of the Year led the team averaging 18.9 points per game last season. From the field he shot 45.4 percent and was among the conference leaders making 40.3 percent of his 3-point attempts. In 33 games he posted double figures and had a streak of 16 consecutive double figure scoring games. In 16 games he led the team in scoring and 14 were game highs. Twice he recorded double-doubles with 18 points and 10 rebounds at Fresno State and vs. Texas in the NCAA Tournament.

Caroline led the Pack in rebounding at 8.6 per game last season and was second scoring 17.7 points per outing. His 1,180 career points at Nevada ranks 20th in school history and his 27 career double-doubles is tied for seventh most at Nevada. He has started 70 games in his two seasons and appeared in 72 for the Pack. Last season he scored in double figures in 33 games and 60 times in his career.

Nevada opens the regular season Nov. 6 at Lawlor Events Center versus BYU.
