RENO, Nev. – For the first time in her career, Nevada women’s basketball sophomore Essence Booker has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week.
Booker was instrumental in helping lead Nevada to two wins during the opening week of the 2019-20 season and get the Wolf Pack off to its first 2-0 start since the 2013-14 campaign. For the week she led the Pack in scoring in each game, averaged 19.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per contest and was extremely efficient on offense, shooting 52 percent from the field.
In the season-opening win over Saint Mary’s, Booker established a new career high after posting 17 points, only to break that four days later as she poured in 21 points against Sacramento State, the first 20-point game of her career. It wasn’t just scoring that helped Booker shine last week, she also added 11 rebounds, including a career-high six against the Hornets. The Las Vegas native shot over 40 percent from beyond the arc, hitting three against the Gaels, and was perfect from the free throw line, knocking down 9-of-9 all against Sacramento State. Booker added five assists and three steals to her week as well.
Nevada will hit the road for the first time in 2019-20 when it travels to Orem, Utah to take on Utah Valley this Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
