ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Seven runs in the seventh inning lifted the Pack over the Lobos, 11-6 to move to 4-1 in Mountain West play. Nevada secured the series with the win today and look to sweep tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. PT.
The game was full of highlights including a career high strikeouts from Julia Jensen with 15, it was also a season high for the sophomore. However, Jensen did not get the start, Kali Sargent actually started in the circle but was relieved early in the game. Jensen finished the game and pitched 6 2/3 innings with three runs.
Kenzi Goins, Dallas Millwood and Ashley Salausa all had multi-hit games with Sierra Mello and Millwood having three-RBI games. Goins, Salausa and Sadaria McAlister also all had home runs in the contest. The team combined for nine hits and 10 RBI along with six drawn walks.
The Pack started things off in the top of the first with a solo bomb from Goins but the 1-0 lead was short lived after New Mexico had a three-run home run to take the lead, 3-1. Nevada scored in each of the second and third innings to tie it up 3-3 and take the lead, 4-3 before the Lobos hit another three-run home run to go up 6-4.
In the seventh inning, the Pack was down 6-4 but the bats had been on the brink all game so the inning was not a surprise. Mello started the marathon with a walk before a one-out single from Goins. Warner loaded the bases up after a Lobo error. Millwood with a 3 RBI double cleared the bases and let the Pack go ahead, 7-6.
With Millwood on second she took third on a wild pitch and Salausa drew a walk to put runners on the corners with one out. Another error by the Lobos allowed Rachel Rodriguez on first, scored Millwood and caused a pitching change. Mello then followed with a 2 RBI single and brought the Pack up, 11-6. Jensen finished the game with three more strikeouts.
Nevada goes for the sweep of New Mexico tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. PT. The game will be available on Mountain West Network and live stats on SIDEARM.
