Avansino no longer head football coach at Reno High School

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - For the first time since 2002 there will be a new head football coach at Reno High School next season.

Reno High School Principal Kris Hackbusch relieved Dan Avansino of his head coaching duties, according to a member of the Washoe County School District.

Avansino coached for 17 years at Reno High and helped the Huskies win a state championship in 2003.

It is unclear whether he was let go because of comments he made during a halftime interview at Bishop Manogue last Friday. The Miners beat the Huskies 55-7 in the first round of the 4A State Playoffs.

Avansino is still employed as an English teacher at Reno High.
