Almonte's grand slam paces Aces to win over River Cats
The Aces offense came alive on Sunday afternoon in downtown Sacramento. Reno defeated the River Cats 12-6 behind a six-run first inning capped off by an Abraham Almonte grand slam. As a team, the Biggest Little Ballclub tallied 14 hits and drew seven walks to earn their 13th win of the season. Right-hander Taylor Widener went five innings, struck out five, and allowed four runs on five hits.
Two walks and a double set the table for Abraham Almonte in the top of the first inning. Facing River Cats southpaw Ty Blach, Almonte laced a fastball onto the left-field berm for his third career grand slam. Another walk and three consecutive hits later, Reno ended the inning with a 6-0 advantage. Widner, pitching with a lead, left the contest with a 6-4 advantage. After four scoreless offensive innings, the Aces offense put up two in the sixth and four in the seventh to solidify the win. The Aces and Sacramento will square off one more time before Reno heads to the Pacific Northwest for a four-game set in Tacoma.
