COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KOLO) – The Mountain West has announced the 2018 All-Conference Volleyball awards, as voted on by the league’s 11 coaches. Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Afoa was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention on Monday afternoon.
The Honolulu, Hawai’i native led the team in multiple categories while posting 16 double-doubles on the season. Afoa led the team in kills with 385, total attacks with 1,217, and kills per set at 3.41 while also recording a team high 30 service aces. She posted a career offensive night against Air Force in Virginia Street Gym on November 8, putting up 26 kills on 68 attacks while also tallying three service aces.
Defensively, Afoa was second on the team in total digs with 348 and second in digs per set with 3.08, behind senior Mo Maluotoga. The sophomore notched a season high 21 digs in the opener against Northern Arizona, contributing to the 91 total digs the Pack had in the single match. She was also third on the team in total blocks with 36.0 with a career and season high, four at San Diego State and Air Force.
Nevada finished the season leading the conference in attacks per set with a 35.50 average while holding second in digs per set with an average of 15.47 and third in total digs with 1,748. Afoa led the conference in attacks per set with 10.77, second in total attacks and fifth in kills and total digs.
