FRESNO, Calif. – A late offensive rally proved to be too little, too late on Sunday afternoon in Fresno. Reno was held without a run until the top of the 8th inning today, the longest scoreless drought of the year. The Aces loaded the bases for 2018 All-Pacific Coast League selection Kevin Cron. Cron punished a fastball off the wall to clear the bases, scoring Andrew Aplin, Caleb Joseph, and Wyatt Mathisen. Unfortunately for Reno, the Grizzlies pitching staff rebounded with a scoreless final frame to give the Aces their third loss of the season.
Right-hander Vinny Nittoli made his Triple-A debut this afternoon and the first affiliated start of his career. Nittoli went 3.0 innings, allowed six runs on seven hits and struck out four. Alex Young came on in relief for Nittoli and was one of the few bright spots for the visiting club this afternoon. The Texas Christian product went three innings and allowed just one hit while adding four strikeouts. The Aces will finish their five-game road trip tomorrow afternoon before heading home to Greater Nevada Field on April 9. First pitch tomorrow is slated for 11:05 a.m.
