RENO, NV (KOLO) Vacaville resident Tim Gallegos says it's a ten year tradition for him.
He and his friend come here to the Grand Sierra Resort and place numerous bets on the Super Bowl.
This year it's particularly sweet.
The 49ers are the NFC Champions.
It's a big deal.
“It is,” says Tim. “Like seven years. But haven't won in 25,” he says
He says for about an hour they'll look at the odds in the wager menu, place their bets, have a great meal, spend the night and head home tomorrow morning--before the Super Bowl crowds arrive.
“We are sold out, all weekend long,” says Christopher Abraham, Grand Sierra Resort, Senior Vice President of Marketing.
Abraham says because the 49ers are in the Super Bowl, and the bay area is a target market for Northern Nevada hotel casinos, it is the perfect storm for big business this weekend.
“I think our businesses is going to be twice as good for this game then the normal Super Bowl. Just because the 49ers are in it,” says Abraham.
Abraham shows the pages and categories of wagers that can be made.
He says even a novice is willing to bet ten or twenty dollars on something and take a chance.
He says the crowds presented themselves here when the Niners made it to the playoffs a couple of weeks ago.
The GSR has responded by opening up the Grand Theater with a 32-foot HD screen, the biggest in Reno, for Super Bowl Sunday.
The Chiefs are a one-point favorite.
Tim has bet on the Niners by seven.
