The Sparks Police Department is warning the public about a scam asking girls age 10 to 14 for pictures of themselves wearing varying amounts of clothing and threatening the girls or their families if they did not cooperate.

The perpetrators also cloned the girls’ accounts to make fake social media accounts. The information they got included the addresses and phone numbers of the girls and their families, police said.

Police reminded parents to discuss their children’s social media use and to monitor their children's’ accounts. If parents believe the child has been a victim of a solicitation or threat, they should contact their local law enforcement agency or can call Sparks police at 775-353-2231.
