PLACER COUNTY, CA (KOLO) - Two women have been charged with grand theft after taking a boat ride at Lake Tahoe.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office says 20-year-old Madison Riddle and 19-year-old Genevieve Dyer "thought it would be a good idea to have a few drinks and take a dinghy boat on a joy ride in Lake Tahoe."

Investigators say the women were caught by the dinghy owner, who happened to be riding his bike in the area and took photos of them.

Investigators say the women refused to go back to shore until deputies showed up, and by then, they were "too drunk to row back." They were towed to shore by an Obexer’s Harbor worker.

Dyer and Riddle have posted bail and been released from the Auburn jail.
