RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Reno Fire Department says a woman was killed when her townhome caught fire late Wednesday, April 3, 2019. This happened on Silver Sky Parkway in Stead.

A neighbor walking their dog spotted smoke coming from the home at the Bungalows at Sky Vista just after 11 p.m.

When crews arrived, there was heavy smoke in the home, but the sprinklers had put out most of the active fire. Battalion Chief Mark Winkelman says crews found the body of a woman inside. Her identity has not been released.

A dog was also inside, but survived and is now with animal control.

Investigators say there were smoke alarms, but it's unclear if they were working.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but firefighters say it was likely an accident. Only the townhome was damaged by fire. At least three units sustained water damage.
