Wine walk supports nonprofit gym for heroes

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Help support UpState Nevada and the Reno Riverwalk District during the Reno Wine Walk Saturday, April 20, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It’s not only the love of your favorite red or white wine worth celebrating this April; it’s also a day to show your support for your favorite charity. Each month portions of the proceeds for the Reno Wine Walk benefit local charitable organizations. In more than eight years the event organizers have donated more than $103,000 to local non-profits.

This April the Riverwalk District’s monthly event will support UpState Nevada, a fully-functioning gym for all. UpState Nevada provides reduced prices or free memberships to Everyday Heroes in the community. An Everyday Hero is defined as: All military (active or retired), first responders (Police, Fire or Emergency Services), teachers, nurses, adults with physical or cognitive impairments and their families, and children with physical or cognitive impairments and their families.

The Wine Walk is a monthly event held each third Saturday. You purchase a decorative wine glass for a $20 wine-tasting fee. With wine glass in hand and a valid photo ID, you’ll receive an ID bracelet, which allows you to sample wine at any of the twenty-plus participating merchant locations. Many of the businesses hand paint each individual wine glass, which attendees get to take home. At the end of the event, attendees enter to win more than $800 in gift cards from all the participating merchants during a 5 p.m. raffle.
