RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Washoe School Board Trustee Veronica Frenkel has announced she won't run for election for a second term in 2018.
Frenkel was first elected in 2014, and is the second trustee to announce plans not to run for another term; John Mayer was the first.
Frenkel released this statement:
"I wish to announce that I will not be seeking reelection as a WCSD School Board Trustee in 2018. After much reflection and discussion with my family, I have concluded that I should return my attention to supporting the personal and economic well-being of my family and refocus my energy on other opportunities to authentically, meaningfully and effectively contribute to my community.
"It has been an honor to serve this community as a WCSD Trustee and to work diligently to promote greater opportunities for career and technical education, improvements in school safety, increased graduation rates, and the building of new schools, and to advocate for and oversee the development of new District and Board systems, policies and processes, including improved strategic planning and budgeting approaches, that support quality education for each of our 64,000 students. It has also been an honor to represent the District on the Regional Planning Governing Board and the Debt Management Commission and to contribute to statewide efforts to strengthen teacher and school accountability and performance as a member of the Governor’s Teachers and Leaders Council.
"I will, of course, continue to represent this community with dedication and intentionally and fervently advocate for students, teachers, and schools for the remainder of my term. And I look forward to continuing to collaborate with the many dedicated individuals who selflessly endeavor to improve the quality of life for all families in the community that I call home."
