RENO, Nev. (KOLO) The Washoe Public House will be featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives tonight (October 11) on the Food Network.
"It's kind of surreal; I'll believe it when I see it kind of thing," admitted owner and executive chef Brett Moseley. "I was super stoked; super excited. I didn't think it was real because it was a Facebook message."
But it was true, his restaurant was among six chosen from northern Nevada to appear on the hit TV show. The episode features a pair of unique menu items, including the wild boar schnitzel.
"Wild Boar tenderloin and I do a rye spaetzle. I do a gravy with pork-belly jus, and we make house-made pickled mushrooms that go on top," said Moseley.
He also cooked his double-elk chop, which can even appeal to those who aren't the most adventurous of eaters, or big fans of gamey food.
"Sweet, it's not irony," explained Moseley. "It comes from New Zealand, so it's a farm-braised product."
The food was well-received by celebrity host Guy Fieri, who was momentarily left speechless.
"It was funny, because he was super quiet when he was eating," added Moseley. "And it was like the longest two minutes of my life. Just staring at him."
The exposure is a big opportunity for the relatively new restaurant, which opened back in 2017, and often gets mistaken for another public house in town. And it could lead to a big boost in customers, with a chance of a two-hundred percent increase in business following the episode.
'I mean we're a major travel-hub city, people come to Lake Tahoe from all over the world," said Moseley. "One of the producers told me to get out a map and start putting pins in from where people come from, because he said it will surprise you."
The Washoe Public House is holding a watch party at 6pm at their restaurant at 275 Hill street. The episode will air at both 9pm and midnight on the Food Network.
