RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- Washoe County Manager John Slaughter will retire effective June 14, the county announced Thursday.

The Washoe County Commission appointed Slaughter as manager in November 2013. He started working for Washoe County in 1986, working as a land use planner, strategic planning manager and director of management services. He also represented Washoe County at the Nevada Legislature from 2001 to 2013, the county said in a statement.

“Leaving Washoe County is not a decision I come to lightly,” Slaughter said in a sttement. “This decision comes only after much thought and many discussions with my family. I have come to recognize that time spent with family is not indefinite and after more than 32 years with this great organization, I look forward to devoting time to family and friends.”
