QUINCY, Cal. (KOLO) - Warmer and drier weather on Saturday, September 21, 2019 produced signs that the Walker Fire is still burning.
U.S. Forest Service fire crews noticed smoke in the burned area as stumps and logs smolder.
The fire has been mapped at 54,612 acres and is 98% contained. Fire personnel in the air and on the ground continue to make sure the smoke is all on the interior of the fire lines and not expanding.
A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team has started an assessment of the Walker Fire area to determine if there is any risk of the destabilized soil to either life or property.
"Resource Advisers" are also working with repair operations to protect natural and cultural resources and to return the fire lines to their natural condition.
