WPSL soccer franchise coming to Reno in 2017

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) A minor league women's soccer franchise is coming to Reno to begin play next season. The Reno Tahoe Liberty FC will join the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) in 2017.

It's a secondary women's league, similar to Double-A in baseball. The WPSL has over 100 teams across the nation, serving as a minor league for both the United Women's Soccer league (UWS) and the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), which is the top professional women's league in the country.

The team will initially be made up of amatuers, college-level players and a few former professionals; with the goal to start a second semi-professional team within four years.

The Liberty FC will hold tryouts in August for players ages 16-and-older. The team is expected to hold a couple of exhibition "friendly" games on the road this season.

The innagural season will begin in May of 2017.
